Understand the Private Key and CSR generation processes in cPanel

In order to get an SSL certificate from the trusted Certificate Authority, you should have a Certificate Signing Request or CSR and get it to validate your domain through the validation process.

In this article, we will explain all steps with clear instructions to generate Private Key and CSR in cPanel.

We will discuss two processes in this article like one for Private Key and another for the Certificate Signing Request.

Let’s get started with generating Private Key in cPanel.

Step 1: Access your Control Panel.

Step 2: Move to “SECURITY” segment in the control panel, and click on the option “SSL/TLS”.

Step 3: On “SSL/TLS” console, you should click on the first option called “Generate, view, upload, or delete your private keys” under “Private Key (KEY)”.

Step 4: Now pick the right encryption strength, and make sure you would have at least 2048bit. And, then type your domain name also known as the common name in the SSL security industry.

Step 5: Hit the button called “Generate”.

Step 6: That’s it. Your Private Key stored on your web server.

 

Time for Certificate Signing Request or CSR Process in cPanel.

Step 1: Again move to “SECURITY” segment and then click on the option “SSL/TLS”.

Step 2: Click on the option called “Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests” under “Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)”.

Step 3: Enter all require information in the proper format and then hit the button “Generate”.

Step 4: That’s it. You got your Certificate Signing Request. Copy the Certificate Signing Request content and store it in notepad in your computer machine.
