We heard plenty of times that WordPress website developers and bloggers struggle to remove the word “Archive” in category title. They face the same problem while removing Archive term from tag and author title from a WordPress website.

Our WordPress research team has invested their quality time and developed multiple solutions to get remove this “Archive” in the category, tag, and author title.

We build three solutions for this issue and three of them are completely different because one solution is based on the plugin, another solution is based on code changes, and the last solution that we build based on template changes.
Let’s dig into each of solution and learn about it to fix this Archive title issue on Category pages from a WordPress website.

Solution 1 – Removing Category Archive Title through Yoast SEO Plugin.

Step 1: Access Yoast SEO Plugin.
Step 2: Click on the option called “Title & Metas” from the left-hand side.
Step 3: Click on the option called “Taxonomies” from Yoast SEO wizard.
Step 4: Remove Archive Term from Yoast Title Template for Category pages.
Step 5: That’s you’re done with Archive title removal process in Category pages.

Solution 2 – Removing Category Archive Title through Category Template Code Changes.

Step 1: Access WordPress Appearance Menu and click on the Editor option.
Step 2: Click on the “Category” template from the right-hand side.
Step 3: Search for “Archive” term in category template.
Step 4: Remove Archive term as a value of category and make it %s.
Step 5: That’s it. You’re done with this solution. You could now refresh and see the changes.

Solution 3 – Removing Category Archive Title through the PHP function.

Step 1: Access WordPress Appearance Menu and click on the Editor option.
Step 2: Click on the “function.php” file from the right-hand side.
Step 3: Paste below function at the end of function.php file.

if ( is_category() ) {
$title = single_cat_title( ”, false );
} elseif ( is_tag() ) {
$title = single_tag_title( ”, false );
} elseif ( is_author() ) {
$title = ‘<span class=”vcard”>’ . get_the_author() . ‘</span>’ ;
}

return $title;
});

Step 4: Once you add the above function in a function.php file, then save it.
Step 5: That’s it. You’re done with the solution for this.
